Our Summer Quarter of Sunday School
June - August 2008

Summertime introduces a new quarter of studies for Aveleigh's Sunday School classes. The new Sunday School Summer Quarter begins June 1, 2008.  Our children ages toddler through 5th grade will be using curriculum entitled “Reach Everyone You Teach," the Reformed Presbyterian Edition of the David C. Cook Bible-In-Life series.  This curriculum is rooted deeply in God’s inerrant Word.  Every lesson has a firm foundation in the Scriptures and helps children dig into the Bible to learn more about living as a Christian in everyday life.

In this quarter, our 3 year olds through Kindergarteners will look at various books from the Old and New Testament focusing on values such as unselfishness, obedience and appreciation.  The various units are entitled “God loves us,” “We Show Our Love to God,” and “We Learn to Love One Another.”  Our 1st through 5th graders will learn about values such as respect, holiness, helpfulness, self-control, and joy.  Their three units are entitled “Rules to Follow,” “Redemption to Receive,” and “Relationships to Build.”

As usual, our children, nursery age through 5th grade, will meet at 9:45am (in Mary's Room beside the kitchen) for our weekly King's Kids Sunday School Assembly program ...filled with music, singing and puppets.  At approximately 10am, children will be dismissed to their respective classrooms.

Our Middle School class (located in Truesdell Hall – gym) will take a look at a study from Faith Weaver entitled “Passing the Test.”  “In this study, students will learn from great faith heroes.   Josiah.  Daniel.  Esther.  Job.  These and other Bible people stood steadfast in faith through problems, tests, tragedies, and catastrophes.   They emerged from potentially faith-shattering trails with refined, rock-solid faith.”

Our High School Class (located in the Clubhouse building on Main Street), taught by Jackie Swindler, will continue to look at a Life Application Bible Study on the books of “1 & 2 Thessalonians,” and “Philemon.”

Adult Sunday School Opportunities:

The following is a list of the various topics covered by Aveleigh's Adult Sunday School Classes this quarter:

The Agape Class (located in the Kirk House) will look at a DVD series by Liz Curtis Higgs entitled “ Loved by God.”  “Have you ever doubted that God cherishes you? Participants will look at a verse-by-verse examination of the story of Jacob, Esau, Leah, and Rachel and discover that God's plans for you are bigger than you imagine and that his love for you knows no bounds.”

The College & Young Adult Class (located in the Kirk House) will continue to look at a study entitled “The Wired Word.”  The Wired Word “includes biblical commentary and discussion questions related to a topic in the news each week and then weaves these current events into participants weekly Bible studies¼making lessons and discussions more relevant to modern Christian living.”

The New Beginnings Class (located on the 2nd floor of the Educational Building - beside the Choir Room) will also continue to look at a study entitled “The Wired Word.”  The Wired Word “includes biblical commentary and discussion questions related to a topic in the news each week and then weaves these current events into participants weekly Bible studies¼making lessons and discussions more relevant to modern Christian living.”

The Seekers Class (located in David's Room - downstairs beside the Library) – will look at a DVD study entitled Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer.  “Like a chessboard, your mind is a battlefield.  And doubt, worry, confusion, depression, anger, and condemnation are the enemy’s pawns.  This study will help participants recognize and stop damaging thought patterns, effectively use spiritual weapons, begin seeing the truth by thinking correctly, find peace, and win the match!”

The Spirit of Aveleigh Class (located on the 2nd floor of the Educational Building).
Beginning in June, participants will look at a study by John Ortberg entitled “If You
Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat.”  “In this 6-session
journey on learning to trust God, Ortberg teaches ‘water walking’ skills: finding
your call, transcending fear, risking faith, managing failure, and waiting on Christ.”

The Neil Truesdell Class (located in the Chapel) - will be studying a lesson entitled Images of Christ from The Present Word - A Cooperative Uniform Series from Presbyterian Publishing Corporation.  "This summer participants will take a look at the various ways Jesus is portrayed in the New Testament.  Rather than focusing on the details of Jesus’ life and ministry, the passages selected for study present a series of images.”
